An 81-year-old Oak Lawn woman died Tuesday night after a car accident in Palos Heights, officials said.
Shirley Ronan, of the 9500 block of Kolmar Avenue, was making a left-hand turn where none is allowed when her car was struck by a pickup truck, police said.
Ronan had been visiting a family friend prior to the crash at 135th Street and Forest Ridge Drive, police said. She was turning a 2001 Mercury Sable onto eastbound 135th Street about 2:30 p.m., and a westbound 2008 Dodge Ram pickup truck driven by a 63-year-old Orland Park man hit the driver’s side of her car, police said.
Ronan was pronounced dead at 9:59 p.m. at Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office. The preliminary cause of death was injuries suffered in a crash, the medical examiner’s office said.
Palos Heights police Deputy Chief Dave Delaney said no tickets were issued.
