Car fire backs up traffic on I-57

No one was hurt, but the evening rush hour turned into an ordeal for drivers when a car burst into flames about 4:30 p.m. Wednesday on southbound Interstate 57 north of Vollmer Road, Illinois State Police said.
The driver of the burning vehicle managed to flee safely, police said.
No accidents resulted from the fire, but southbound traffic was backed up for several miles, police said.
