A former Sandburg High School substitute teacher and coach pleaded guilty Monday to one count of criminal sexual abuse, after he engaged in sex with a 17-year female student in his home, according to the DuPage County state’s attorney’s office.

Steven Reynolds, 27, of Hinsdale, was sentenced by Judge George Bakalis to 15 days in a work-release program, 30 months of probation, and 200 hours of community service, DuPage County state’s attorney’s office spokesman Paul Darrah said.

Reynolds must register as a sex offender for the next 10 years and have no contact with the victim.

Reynolds initially was charged with two counts of criminal sexual abuse, but one count was dropped as part of his plea agreement, Darrah said.

At the time of his arrest in February, police said Reynolds, a substitute teacher and part-time freshman basketball coach, had inappropriate contact with the student on multiple occasions.
