A Riverdale man died Saturday morning after divers from the Chicago Fire Department pulled him out of the Chicago River near the Old Town neighborhood on Friday night.
Brian Garland, 26, of the 14000 block of South Wabash Avenue in Riverdale, was pulled out of the river near the 900 block of North Kingsbury Street, authorities said.
Garland was stepping off a rented boat onto the dock when he slipped, hit his head and fell into the water, authorities said.
Paramedics took the man in critical condition to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 4:14 a.m. Saturday, authorities said.
An autopsy for Garland was scheduled for Sunday, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.
