BP lists stations that sold tainted gasoline

BP says the size of its gasoline recall is now more than twice as large than previously reported, with 4.7 million gallons of bad gas distributed as far as
southwestern Ohio and southern Indiana.
Previously, the company had said the gas was distributed only in northwest Indiana and the Chicago and Milwaukee areas.
BP has posted a searchable database for consumers who want to check whether gas stations they use had tainted gasoline.
Several stations in southeastern Will and Cook counties are listed on the site, www.bpresponse.com.
Click on “Claims” to find a list of retail sites that dispensed the gas. By typing in the name of a city or a ZIP code, the website will list the addresses of the retail sites that received “off-specification gasoline” related to problem with BP’s Whiting, Ind., refinery.
While the website identifies BP stations that dispensed the bad gas, other stations are not identified by name other than being listed as “non-BP” locations. Some of the gas went to Speedway and Thornton’s stations in the Chicago area, as well as to big-box retailers such as Costco.
BP said Wednesday it has received more than 8,600 claims from customers, the majority of which are from Indiana. The company said 28 percent of claims are from Illinois drivers.
BP said it has 159 call center operators and 140 claims adjusters assigned to the tainted gas issue. Drivers who want more information about filing a claim can call (800) 599-9040.
