Jet fuel pipeline through Palos Park back in business

The pipeline in Palos Park that leaked last month, spilling thousands of gallons of jet fuel, is up and running again.
Repairs have been completed to a section of the Badger Pipe Line System in the 8700 block of West Illinois 83, according to the West Shore Pipe Line Co.
The pipeline was tested and approved by the U.S. Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration, and the pipeline was restarted at 10 a.m. Monday, the company said.
West Shore crews continue to conduct environmental testing, soil sampling, air quality testing and irrigation well monitoring near the site, the company said.
Last week, a Cook County judge ordered an investigation into the cause of the spill. West Shore owns the pipeline, which is operated by the Buckeye Pipe Line Co.
The spill of 29,000 gallons of jet fuel on Aug. 27 closed Illinois 83 for nearly a week and closed the Calumet Sag Channel to boat traffic for several days.
West Shore and Badger also were cited and fined for a pipeline spill of 21,000 gallons of crude oil in Lockport in December 2010.
