You probably know who you are voting for.
But do you know where you are voting? One out of every five voters in the City of Chicago has a new polling place Tuesday, so election officials are encouraging voters to check where they should be voting before heading to what will likely be busy polls.
Tuesday’s election is the first since the once-a-decade redistricting shifted 20 percent of registered voters’ addresses into a different precinct.
Tuesday “is the voter’s day,” said Langdon Neal, chairman of the Chicago Board of Election Commissioners, at a press conference Monday with Cook County Clerk David Orr. “Finally after a year and a half of a very long and arduous cycle, [the day] belongs to the voter.”
But voters will only be able to cast their ballots if they show up at the correct poll.
Chicago voters in the city limits can get their current poll locations at chicagoelections.com; sending a text to (312) 361-8846; or calling (312) 269-7900.
Suburban Cook County voters were redistricted before the primary, but for those that didn’t vote in April, they may be heading to a new polling location.
Cook County voters outside of
Chicago’s city limits are asked to check cookcountyclerk.com/elections, m.cookcountyclerk.com on a mobile phone or call (312) 603-0906.
Hundreds of thousands of
voters in Chicago and the
surrounding areas already cast their votes through early voting, though those ballots will not be tallied until the polls close Tuesday night.
