One hurt as Metra train, car collide at 115th Street

One person was hospitalized Monday evening after a Metra train and a car collided near 115th Street and Vincennes Avenue in Chicago, a Metra spokeswoman said.
The injured person was taken to MetroSouth Medical Center in Blue Island. The person’s condition was not immediately available, but Metra spokeswoman Meg Reile said she didn’t believe there were any fatalities.
Both inbound and outbound trains on the Rock Island Line were delayed by up to 75 minutes.
Train No. 413, scheduled to arrive in New Lenox at 6:01 p.m., hit the car at about 5:20 p.m., Reile said. The train was on an express route between the stop at 103rd Street in Washington Heights and the Blue Island Vermont Street stop, she said. Between 500 and 1,000 people were on the train, and they were dropped off at the Vermont Street stop to board a subsequent train, Reile said.
A preliminary investigation determined the crossing gates were working at the time of the crash, Reile said. A crash report by Metra police should be available Tuesday morning, she said.
The train was on the move again by about 6:10 p.m., after being stopped for 42 minutes, Reile said.
