A woman was rescued by passersby before her Ford Focus caught fire after she crashed into a ditch on 147th Street in Oak Forest Wednesday afternoon, police said.
The 61-year-old Orland Park woman was driving the wrong way on 147th Street, sideswiped another vehicle, hit a concrete barrier and landed in the ditch, Oak Forest Police Sgt. Alexander Curlee said.
She was transported to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, but was expected to be OK, he said.
Police said a medical issue apparently caused her to pass out at the wheel. By the time she left the scene, she was “coherent,” Curlee said.
Her car caught fire after witnesses pulled her out, he said.
The woman is expected to be charged with improper lane use, Curlee said.
