Art Fessler will step down as superintendent of Oak Lawn-Hometown School District 123 at the end of this school year, according to an email sent out Monday to district staff and families.
In his email, Fessler said he is taking the job of superintendent of Community Consolidated School District 59 in Arlington Heights, which is closer to his home in West Dundee.
Fessler has been superintendent in District 123 for 2-1/2 years.
In his note, Fessler praised the work of the district’s school board as well as administrators, teachers and staff, calling them “talented, caring individuals.”
Fessler said the school board is in the process of starting a search for a replacement, and specific details and a timeline will be released prior to winter break.
