A 37-year-old Oak Forest woman who was involved in a car accident Jan. 12 in Alsip died Thursday, police said.
Colleen Palermo, of the 15700 block of Peggy Lane, was pronounced dead at 7 p.m. at Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, police said. Alsip police are continuing to investigate the cause of the accident, but alcohol has been ruled out as a contributing factor, police said.
An autopsy was scheduled for Saturday.
The accident occurred at 6 a.m. near 128th Street and Cicero Avenue, when a Ford Taurus, in which Palermo was a passenger, struck the rear of a semi truck in the southbound lane, Alsip police said.
The Ford was trapped under the trailer, and Palermo and the driver, a 32-year-old Chicago man, had to be extricated, police said. The man was in critical but stable condition Friday at Christ Medical Center, police said.
The truck driver, a Texas man, was not injured. He told police he had just begun to make a left turn when he felt the Taurus hit his trailer.
