A 76-year-old Oak Forest man fondled a minor on the CTA’s Orange Line and masturbated in front of another teenager, Cook County prosecutors said Tuesday.
“Lies,” William Papagianis muttered as he stood before Cook County Judge Donald Panarese Jr. Tuesday.
Earlier this month, on Jan 8., a 15-year-old old was standing up on the train with her sister when she felt fingers touching over her school uniform pants, Assistant State’s Attorney Joell Zahr said.
Fifteen to twenty seconds later, the girl felt fingers rubbing over her buttocks. At that point, she turned around and saw Papagianis standing behind her, Zahr said.
The girl pushed Papagianis and told him to stop touching her before he sat back down, Zahr said.
The sisters got off the next stop and immediately told police, but the train left and officers couldn’t get on to question Papagianis, prosecutors said.
An alert was activated and Papagianis was captured on camera, Zahr said.
The sisters identified Papagianis when he was arrested for a similar incident on Monday.
In that pending misdemeanor case, Papagianis allegedly masturbated in front of a 17-year-old girl as he sat across from her on the Orange Line.
Papagianis was making “hissing” noises as the girl to get her attention, a police report said.
The girl pushed the emergency button on the train and got off as Papagianis did, the report said.
A witness saw the girl crying and flagged down police who apprehended Papagianis, authorities said.
“That’s a lie too,” Papagianis said in a heavy Greek accent when Zahr detailed his arrest this week.
Papagianis blurted out in court that he is a former restaurateur and claimed to be good friends with the late George Halas.
“I know Papa Bear Halas. He was a good friend of mine. He and the Bears used to eat at my restaurants,” he said.
Panarese ordered Papagianis held in lieu of $1 million bail for an aggravated sexual abuse charge related to the Jan. 8 incident.
Papagianis currently has a pending felony for harassing a witness in Maywood, Zahr said.
He was arrested in 2007 for grabbing a woman’s knee and masturbating in front of her at Midway Airport, Zahr said.
The next year, Papagianis was arrested for masturbating in front of a CVS employee.
