Overnight closures of LaGrange Road in Orland Park are planned as crews demolish the Metra bridge near 143rd Street, Orland Park and Illinois Department of Transportation officials announced Wednesday.
Weather permitting, starting Sunday and continuing through Thursday, LaGrange will be closed between 135th and 143rd streets from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. each evening. A second round of street closings, also lasting five nights and weather-dependent, will start Feb. 17 and continue through Feb. 21. Those closings will also be from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. each night.
Drivers will be directed to use Southwest Highway to detour around the closing. Businesses and side streets along LaGrange will be accessible during the closures.
A new Metra railroad bridge for the Southwest Service line was built last summer in advance of the $90 million reconstruction and widening of LaGrange Road from 131st Street to 179th Street. Work on that project is expected to get under way this year.
