A man got away with an unknown amount of cash after robbing a bank Thursday in Chicago’s Ashurn community on the Southwest Side.
The robbery happened about 10:15 a.m. at the Fifth Third Bank in the 3200 block of West 87th Street, police said.
A man entered the bank, handed the teller a note and then ran away in an unknown direction, police News Affairs Officer John Mirabelli said. The note implied he had a weapon, FBI spokeswoman Joan Hyde said, but police said no weapon was shown.
No one at the bank was injured, Mirabelli said.
The robber was described as a light-skinned black male wearing sunglasses and a black scarf.
There have been at least 34 bank robberies in the Chicago area this year, according to the FBI. In 2012 there were 218.
