LOCKPORT TOWNSHIP — A 21-year-old man was shot to death Sunday night at the border of Joliet and an unincorporated area, according to police.
Polce said Devin T. Peete, of Joliet, was shot about 6:30 p.m. in the 900 block of Rosalind Street. He was taken to Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox where he was pronounced dead at 7 p.m., the Will County coroner’s office reported.
Joliet Cmdr. Brian Benton said shell casings were found in the city but police later determined the shooting occurred outside the city.
Will County sheriff’s police Lt. Jeff McKenzie said Monday the investigation is continuing, but he would not comment on a motive for the murder.
Peete was arrested by Joliet police in February 2011, less than a half-mile from where he was slain on Sunday, police records show. They indicated that a 20-year-old woman was sitting in her car in the 1300 block of Arthur Avenue when Peete walked up with a handgun and demanded her purse.
He was convicted of robbery and sentenced to three years behind bars, getting paroled in February 2012, according to state corrections department records.
Anyone with information on Peete’s death is asked to call detectives at 815-727-8574 or anonymously call CrimeStoppers at 800-323-6734.
