Get Up and Go! for July 3, 2013

Here are events worth getting out of the house for on July 3.

Suggestions include Crete, Orland Park and Palos Heights.

BLOOD PRESSURE TESTING: Crete Public Library District, 1177 N. Main St., (708) 672-8017, hosts this free event at 10 a.m. St. James Manor & Villas conducts free blood pressure screenings on the first Wednesday of the month in the small meeting room. “THE SANDLOT”: Bridge Teen Center, 15555 S. 71st Court, Orland Park, will screen this 1993 film at 3 p.m. for Movie Day. A neighborhood pickup baseball team has to overcome a unique obstacle in this family comedy-drama starring Tom Guiry and Mike Vitar. Rated PG, the film runs for 1 hour and 41 minutes. INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATION: Palos Heights will host this event from 4 p.m. to midnight at Memorial Park, 7607 W. College Drive. Fireworks from Lake Katherine Nature Center & Botanic Gardens will be at dusk (approximately 9:15 p.m.). Information: palosheights.org, (708) 361-1807.
