Provena unveils new name and logo

JOLIET — Employees of Provena Saint Joseph Medical Center gathered Wednesday to celebrate the unveiling of a new logo, name and identity, and mark the beginning of a transition that will take place through early next year.
In February, “Presence Health” was chosen as the name of the new health care system formed by the November 2011 merger of Provena Health of Mokena and Resurrection Health Care of Chicago.
The unveiling of the new Presence Health logo has been anticipated for several weeks and culminated in an internal awareness campaign led by employees, who gradually revealed pieces of the logo on a wall display located in the Winter Garden.
The adoption of the new logo will be phased in over the coming months.
Area residents can expect to see the name “Presence Saint Joseph Medical Center” begin to appear on signs, advertising, patient communication and anywhere else the name appears, but this change is expected to be gradual.
“Provena” will continue to be used in various places until the transition is complete.
The logo is a set of four circular shapes that interlock to form a cross at the center of the mark.
The warm greens and blues are inspired by nature and are intended to represent a balance of vitality and serenity.
Beth Hughes, president and CEO of Provena Saint Joseph, talked about the significance of the name “Presence Health” and how the new logo represents the system’s connections:
“The name ‘Presence’ has meaning to the communities served by the new health care system. These communities rely on our presence to ensure access to high-quality, compassionate care and to make a difference to the lives of those who live in our community.”
“The story of the new logo that represents our system is one of connection. Each of the interlocking circular forms in the design represents a group to whom we are connected — patients and residents, families, communities and each other. Each of the circular components joins together at the center in the form of a cross — which to us is a symbol of hope, a reflection of our faith and a reminder that our Catholic heritage is at the center of all that we do,” she said.
