Kris Kringle Haus is like the Brigadoon of retail stores, magically appearing around this time each year.
This year, owners Jim and Cleo Gierucki have set up shop in Park Pointe Plaza, 14934 S. LaGrange Road, in Orland Park. The Palos Park couple founded Kris Kringle Haus in suburban Geneva in 1990 as a year-round Christmas store, and the business has operated as a seasonal store since 2006.
The Gieruckis model the shop after the traditional German “Christkindlmarkt,” or Christmas market, but the store carries items from several countries, including Austria, Denmark, Ireland, Italy, Poland and Sweden. The store also places an emphasis on stocking U.S.-made items. The Gieruckis previously owned a janitorial supply business for 25 years.
Hours for Kris Kringle Haus are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturdays and noon to 5 p.m. Sundays. The store will be open — with the exception of Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day and New Year’s Day — through Jan. 6.
The Gieruckis are planning many special events in the weeks leading up to Christmas, including visits from renowned designers of Christmas decor.
