CHICAGO — Home sales in the Chicago area jumped 24 percent last month from a year ago, according to a report from the Illinois Association of Realtors released Friday.
The median price in September was $160,000, unchanged from the previous year.
In the nine-county Chicago area, 7,484 homes were sold in September, compared with 6,035 homes sold in September 2011.
In a year-to-year comparison in sales of single-family detached homes, there were notable gains in many suburban communities, including Gurnee which saw a 136 percent increase.
Realtors expect the momentum to continue as the number of detached homes under contract in September grew by 47 percent in the region.
In Illinois, home sales jumped 15.9 percent in September over the previous year, and the median sales price rose 2.2 percent to $139,000. Statewide sales totaled 10,689 this year.
