The U.S. Labor Department said it expects to release the October employment report on time Friday, despite the disruptions expected from Hurricane Sandy.
“The employees at the Bureau of Labor Statistics are working hard to ensure the timely release of employment data on Friday, Nov. 2. It is our intention that Friday will be business as usual regarding the October Employment Situation report,” spokesman Carl Fillichio said.
Earlier, other media quoted a different department spokesman as saying it was not known whether the report would be reported on time, Reuters and other media reported.
The closely watched jobs report will give an updated unemployment rate and say how many jobs were created this month. The report will be even more closely watched than usual because it is scheduled to be released just days ahead of the Nov. 6 presidential election.
