Dr. Richard A. Feely of Flossmoor recently was elected president of the Illinois Osteopathic Medical Society.

Feely heads the Feely Center for Optimal Health, which has locations in Olympia Fields and Chicago.

He also is an adjunct associate professor in
osteopathic medicine at Midwestern University/Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine in Downers Grove and is on-staff at St. Joseph Hospital in Chicago and St. James Hospital in Olympia Fields.

He grew up in Lisle and graduated from the Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine in Kirksville, Mo., the original school of osteopathic medicine.

“I chose osteopathic medicine because it is the most complete form of medical care you can get trained in. You can take pain away with your hands, not just with a pill or shot,” Feely said.

Feely is board certified family practice, osteopathic manipulative medicine, acupuncture, disability evaluation and independent medical evaluation. He is a member of the American Medical Association and the American Academy of Medical Acupuncture, and is a lifetime member of the American Academy of Osteopathy.

In his spare time, Feely plays the bagpipes and enjoys fishing.

“I enjoy the music and camaraderie and the nature and quietness of fishing,” Feely said. His wife is a first-grade teacher, and he has two adult children.
