Here are events worth getting out of the house for on March 12.

CULINARY OLYMPICS: St. James Manor & Villas, 1251 E. Richton Road, Crete, presents the Trilogy Health Services Northern Division Culinary Olympics at 11 a.m. in the campus chapel. Chefs from several Trilogy Health Services’ Northern Division campuses will compete in a three-course (starter, entree and dessert) culinary grand event. Four local judges will score each offering based on appearance, originality, taste, etc. The winning chef then will compete against the other six divisional winners at the April spring meeting in Chicago. In addition to being able to taste the variety of gourmet offerings, community attendees can partake in a sundae bar. Seating is limited. Registration: (708) 672-6700.
A SWITCHBACK SET: Brian FitzGerald and Martin McCormack aka Switchback will take attendees “Traveling Down an Irish Road” at 7 p.m. at the Orland Park Public Library, 14921 Ravinia Ave. The award-winning American roots and Celtic soul duo have celebrated Ireland in song and story for more than two decades.
