Get Up and Go! for May 8, 2013

Here are events worth getting out of the house for on May 8.

Suggestions include South Holland, Tinley Park and Flossmoor.

STUDENT ART EXHIBITION: South Suburban College’s Dorothea Thiel Gallery, 15800 S. State St., South Holland, hosts a potluck artist reception for the biannual show at noon. Art and design students are displaying more than 300 works of art through Friday. The exhibition features drawing, painting, sculpture, ceramics, jewelry, computer art, and graphic and web. BANDS SPRING CONCERT: This free show will be at 6:45 p.m. in Tinley Park High School’s gymnasium, 6111 W. 175th St. The Concert, Symphonic, Jazz and Honors Jazz bands will perform. Information: (708) 532-1900.

“DEFINING IMPRESSIONISM”: Reservations are due for the Southland Community Associates of the Art Institute of Chicago’s spring luncheon on May 16 at the Flossmoor Country Club, 1441 Western Ave. Art Institute of Chicago adjunct lecturer Levi Smith will trace French Impressionism’s history and influence.
