Hot Picks: Award show, BACinema screens ‘Quartet’

Here is a look at top events you won’t want to miss.

Suggestions include the Celebration of Chicago Artists Award Show in University Park and the BACinema screening of “Quartet” in Chicago.

Award show

The Center for Performing Arts at Governors State University, 1 University Parkway, University Park, hosts the Celebration of Chicago Artists Award Show at 7 p.m. May 25.

Narski Music and SmoothJazzChicago.net present this event hosted by Rick O’Dell.

The show features Vanessa Holmes, comedian Ron Baker Jr., Michael Manson, Joan Collaso, Chris Allison, Carlos Cannon, BabiDoll and Jesus Wayne.

Those to be honored include Nick Colionne, Herb Kent, Paul Richmond and Darryll King.

Tickets are $27 for general admission, $37 for reserved seating.

BACinema

The film series continues at 7:30 p.m. May 29 with “Quartet” at Beverly Arts Center, 2407 W. 111th St., Chicago.

Rated PG-13, the movie runs for 1 hour and 38 minutes.

Tickets are $7.50, or $5.50 for center members.

Weekend

May 24’s Weekend magazine features the Southland summer festivals listings and an interview with Tim McGraw, who will perform May 24 at First Midwest Bank Amphitheatre in Tinley Park.
