Garden walk returns
The Southland Community Garden Walk will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, rain or shine, in seven gardens in Flossmoor, Homewood and Olympia Fields.
Master gardeners will be available to discuss features and answer questions.
Proceeds will benefit Aunt Martha’s Youth Service Center and Respond Now. Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 on that day.
Advance tickets may be purchased at Sunnycrest Nursery, 19725 Governors Highway, Flossmoor, and Art 4 Soul, 18135 Harwood Ave., Homewood.
Day-of tickets will be available at Goldberg Park, 3301 Flossmoor Road, Flossmoor.

Registration is due Thursday for Women of the Woods: A Nature Retreat program.
The session will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, rain or shine, at Thorn Creek Nature Center, 247 Monee Road, Park Forest.
This program will celebrate the summer solstice with hikes and nature exploration.
The retreat facilitator will be Lynda Randa, a biologist, educator and nature enthusiast.
Space is limited. The fee is $5 per person.

Second annual garden walk
Rain or shine, the second annual Midlothian Beautification Committee’s Garden Walk will be from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.
Tickets, maps to the homes and flowers can be purchased at the gazebo on the village green, 147th Street and Waverly Avenue.
A question-and-answer table of master gardeners also will be available to address garden questions.

In preparation for Tinley Fitness’ new center, new membership format and new rates, one- and four-month memberships both will be discontinued Sunday.
Beginning Monday, only annual memberships will be offered at the full-service fitness center operated by the Tinley Park Park District.
Members with one- and four-month memberships can convert them to annual memberships prior to the expiration date.

For the dogs
Through July 31, the Homewood-Flossmoor Park District offers a $10 discount on an annual Rover’s Run Dog Park membership for new dog owners who bring in adoption papers along with the other required Rover’s Run documents. This offer is available only to owners of newly adopted dogs.
Rover’s Run is a membership-only dog park regulated by Cook County. Dogs are required to be friendly, fully immunized, dewormed, licensed and wearing tags.
The annual membership fee is $25 for residents and $37.50 for nonresidents, with additional dogs for $5.
Registration forms are at the Goldberg Center, Irwin Center and hfparks.com. Applications must be signed by one’s veterinarian and accompanied by a copy of the dog’s current vaccination.
Rover’s Run is in Apollo Park near the 191st Street entrance, three blocks east of Center Avenue in Homewood.
