Here are events worth getting out of the house for on Aug. 6.
Suggestions include Oak Forest and Flossmoor.
NATIONAL NIGHT OUT: The Oak Forest Crime Prevention Commission hosts the 17th annual National Night Out at 6:30 p.m. by the gazebo at Oak Forest City Hall, 15440 S. Central Ave. There will be guided tours of the Oak Forest Police Department. Oak Forest police and fire department as well as Emergency Management Agency personnel will be on hand to answer questions. There also will be demonstrations by the police department’s K-9 unit and Lee’s Academy of Martial Arts. The theme of the event, supported by the Oak Forest-Crestwood Area Chamber of Commerce, is “Free and Fun.” Information: (708) 687-4050, Ext. 1603.
SOUTH SUBURBAN GARDEN CLUB: This group will meet at 7 p.m. in the Flossmoor Community House, 847 W. Hutchinson Road. This month’s speaker will be Shirlee Evans, who has a degree in horticulture and is also a University of Illinois Extension master gardener. She formerly worked at the Fields on Caton Farm in Crest Hill where she was the director of propagation and productions. All gardeners are welcome to attend.
