Here are events worth getting out of the house for on Sept. 2.
Suggestions include Manhattan and Frankfort.
THE HISTORIC RED CABOOSE: This attraction in downtown Manhattan will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Appropriate for all ages, the caboose offers the chance to tour the inside of this part of railroad history. Children can ring the crossing bell. Manhattan Township Historical Society’s book “Manhattan Memories” will be available for sale in limited quantities. Visitors also can take in Manhattan’s Labor Day parade, which will begin at 11 a.m. Information: (815) 478-4530.
FRANKFORT FALL FESTIVAL: This annual event’s last day includes arts and crafts at an outdoor show featuring more than 300 juried artisans offering handmade creations from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Entertainment includes jazz artist Katie Blomarz from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., rock artist the Bishop’s Daredevil Stunt Club from 1 to 5 p.m. and bluegrass band Leadfoot from 2 to 4 p.m. A carnival also takes place between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. at the fest in historic downtown Frankfort.
