Here are events worth getting out of the house for on Sept. 3.

“PHOTOGRAPHER OF THE YEAR”: Prairie State College’s Christopher Art Gallery, 202 S. Halsted St., Chicago Heights, displays this exhibit featuring work by Alice Jacobs to Sept. 19. The show highlights the portfolio of a top PSC student as well as superior work by other PSC art students in graphic communications, photography and fine art. Regular gallery hours during the exhibition are 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Mondays to Thursdays and 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesdays and Thursdays. Hours by appointment are available at (708) 709-3636.

THE MAKING OF DOWNTON ABBEY: Green Hills Public Library hosts the Making of Downton Abbey: Setting the Scene with Barbara Geiger at 7 p.m. at 8611 W. 103rd St., Palos Hills. Adults can learn about the landscape designers, land ownership patterns and inheritance laws that produced estates like Downton. Geiger, a landscape historian, specializes in late 19th century buildings. She teaches in the Illinois Institute of Technology College of Architecture.
