Here is a Chicago Heights event worth getting out of the house for on Sept. 11.
MEMBERSHIP TEA: The Southland Community Associates of the Art Institute of Chicago invites south suburban residents to this event at 1 p.m. at the Prairie State College Conference Center, 202 S. Halsted St., Chicago Heights. Attendees should park in Lot D.
At 2 p.m., Margaret Farr, a lecturer with the Art Institute, will present “Painting a la Mode: Impressionism, Fashion and Modernity.”
Paris developed into a renowned center of fashion from the mid-1860s to the 1880s. The Impressionist painters incorporated fashion into their artworks.
Major masterworks by the Impressionists and fashion portraitists will be discussed at the lecture. No reservations are necessary, and nonmembers are welcome.
The group is committed to strengthening the Art Institute’s reputation as a world-class art museum. Lectures and other art-related events are offered to members at the museum and in local communities.
