“DISCUSIONES DE NINOS”: In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, this exhibition of Saul Aguirre’s art will be on display in South Suburban College’s Dorothea Thiel Gallery, 15800 S. State St., South Holland, from Wednesday to Oct. 17. The exhibit concentrates on the crucial years of child development in a creative way. “THE GENTLEMAN FROM ILLINOIS”: Former U.S. Sen. Alan J. Dixon (D-Ill.) will sign copies of “The Gentleman from Illinois: Stories from Forty Years of Elective Public Service” (Southern Illinois University Press) between 5:30 and 7:30 p.m. at the Beverly Arts Center, 2407 W. 111th St., Chicago. Released in August, the book is an insider’s look at Illinois politics, covering the decades between Dixon’s election to the Illinois House of Representatives in 1951 to the end of his tenure as a U.S. senator on Jan. 3, 1993.
