Here are events worth getting out of the house for on Oct. 10.
Suggestions include Park Forest, Oak Forest and Blue Island.
POTPOURRI OF LECTURES: “Herbert Hoover the Humanitarian, not the President” with Harry Bond is the opening installment of this fall series at 10:30 a.m. at Park Forest Public Library, 400 Lakewood Blvd. The series continues at 10:30 a.m. Thursdays to Dec. 12 (except Thanksgiving). VOLLEY FOR THE CURE: The Oak Forest High School volleyball team hosts this annual event at Eisenhower High School in Blue Island during the freshman and sophomore game at 4:45 p.m. and the varsity game at 6 p.m. Athletes will honor the fight people face against breast cancer. The matches will be dedicated to all men and women who have been touched by breast cancer with the hope that this disease will be cured. Students are encouraged to wear pink and pack the place in support of this event. Survivors will be recognized and also entered into a raffle. There will be T-shirts for sale, raffles and prizes with proceeds to benefit Susan G. Koman for the Cure on behalf of both schools’ volleyball teams. Information: (708) 687-0500.
