Here are events worth getting out of the house for on Oct. 14.

Suggestions include University Park, Steger, South Chicago Heights and Chicago Ridge.

CHICAGO SOUTHLAND GRADUATE FAIR 2013: Governors State University, 1 University Parkway, University Park, hosts this free event from 3 to 7 p.m. Information on graduate school opportunities from more than 35 U.S. universities will be featured. Information: (708) 235-3974 or govst.edu.

HALLOWEEN PLATES: Steger-South Chicago Heights Library, 54 E. 31st St., Steger, presents this program at 5 p.m. Attendees can prepare for Halloween with festive and custom-made plates by designing one and taking it home. THE HAUNTING: Chicago Ridge Public Library, 10400 Oxford Ave., hosts William Pack at 7 p.m. for this presentation designed for teens and adults only.
