THE ART INSTITUTE OF CHICAGO: 111 S. Michigan Ave., Chicago, (312) 443-3600: Exhibits include “Of Gods and Glamour: The Mary and Michael Jaharis Galleries of Greek, Roman, and Byzantine Art” to Nov. 27, 2015. Admission is free to Illinois residents from 5-8 p.m. Thursdays.

MORAINE VALLEY COMMUNITY COLLEGE’S ROBERT F. DECAPRIO ART GALLERY: 9000 W. College Parkway, Palos Hills, (708) 974-4300: “MVCC Art Faculty Exhibition” is on display to Dec. 18.

SALON ARTISTS GALLERY: 294 Main St., Park Forest, (708) 833-5108 or (708) 748-3946: “Eclectic Art & Holiday Sale” runs from to Dec. 21. The artwork of Suzanne Dreher, Ginny Raftery and Wyll Mull is featured. There also are original one-of-a-kind gifts made by local artists at the 22nd annual holiday art sale, which includes paintings, prints, photographs, cards, pottery, jewelry and woodwork.

UNION STREET GALLERY: 1527 Otto Blvd., Chicago Heights, (708) 754-2601: “Twelfth Month,” an exhibit and boutique, runs to Dec. 21.

COMEDY

PAUL KELLY’S YULE LAUGH: Beverly Arts Center, 2407 W. 111th St., Chicago, (773) 445-3838: This stand-up comedy show in the holiday spirit at 8 p.m. Dec. 13 also features James Wesley Jackson and Bill Gorgo. Tickets are $10.

MUSEUMS

ADLER PLANETARIUM: 1300 S. Lake Shore Drive, Chicago, (312) 922-7827: Exhibits include “Cosmic Wonder,” “The Universe: A Walk Through Space and Time,” “Our Solar System,” “Collecting Memories: The Webster Story,” “Planet Explorers” for families with ages 3-8, “Telescopes: Through the Looking Glass,” and “Shoot for the Moon.”

THE FIELD MUSEUM: 1400 S. Lake Shore Drive, Chicago, (312) 922-9410: Exhibits include “Creatures of Light: Nature’s Bioluminescence” to Jan. 5.

MUSEUM OF SCIENCE AND INDUSTRY: 57th Street and Lake Shore Drive, Chicago, (773) 684-1414: “Christmas Around the World and Holidays of Light” is on display to Jan. 5. Other exhibits include “Science Storms,” “YOU! The Experience,” “The Great Train Story” and the Baby Chick Hatchery. There also are daily live science demonstrations like the chemistry show “Bangs, Flashes and Fire.”

SHEDD AQUARIUM: 1200 S. Lake Shore Drive, Chicago, (312) 939-2438: Exhibits include “Jellies,” which has been extended through 2013, “Waters of the World,” “Caribbean Reef,” “Amazon Rising,” “Wild Reef” and the Polar Play Zone. Attractions include the Shedd’s aquatic show.

PLAYING LIVE

THE FREDDY COLE QUARTET: Freedom Hall, 410 Lakewood Blvd., Park Forest, (708) 747-0580: The group features Nat King Cole’s brother, a jazz singer, and will perform at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 13. Tickets are $28, or $24 for subscribers.

HOLIDAY MUSIC CONCERT 2013: Beverly Arts Center, 2407 W. 111th St., Chicago, (773) 445-3838: Music students from the center present the sounds of the holidays at 11 a.m. Dec. 14. Tickets are $3, or $2 for center members.

LINCOLN-WAY AREA CHORALE: Lincoln-Way East Performing Arts Center, 201 Colorado Ave., Frankfort, (815) 469-1010 or (708) 479-1863: “Holiday Harmonies” will be presented by the 100-voice group during its Christmas concert at 3 p.m. Dec. 14. Tickets are $12 for children and seniors and $14 for adults.

THEATER

THE DRAMA GROUP’S “MAKING GOD LAUGH”: The Drama Group Studio Theatre, 330 W. 202nd St., Chicago Heights, (708) 755-3444: This show runs at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 13-14 and 2 p.m. 15. Tickets are $19 for adults, $18 for seniors and $15 for students with identification. Group discounts also are available.

“A SIMPLE MIRACLE”: Orland Park Civic Center, 14750 Ravinia Ave., (708) 403-6100: This show featuring comedy and holiday songs will be staged at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 13-14 and 2 p.m. Dec. 15. Tickets are $13 for adults, $11 for seniors and students and $9 for children.

VARIETY

BACINEMA SCREENING OF “A CHRISTMAS TALE”: Beverly Arts Center, 2407 W. 111th St., Chicago, (773) 445-3838: The weekly BACinema film series continues at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 18. Rated PG-13, the film runs for 2 hours and 30 minutes. Tickets are $7.50, or $5.50 for center members.

WINTER DANCE CONCERT 2013: Beverly Arts Center, 2407 W. 111th St., Chicago, (773) 445-3838: This show is set for 7 p.m. Dec. 13 and 1 and 3:30 p.m. Dec. 14-15. Tickets are $8, or $6 for center members.
