New Year’s Eve Day Celebration: Doors will open at 10:30 a.m. for this event at the Homewood-Flossmoor Park District Auditorium, 2010 Chestnut Road, Homewood. Attendees can bid farewell to the departing year of 2013 and usher in the new year of 2014 together as a family. There will be live entertainment and a giant balloon drop at the stroke of noon. New Year’s Eve Party: A benefit for the Illinois Philharmonic Orchestra takes place at 7 p.m. at the Olympia Fields Country Club, 2800 Country Club Drive. There will be a 45-minute Vienna concert by an IPO String Quartet, a New York strip streak dinner followed by bananas Foster, raffle prizes, live dance music by the Alex Blomarz Quintet and a sparking midnight toast.
