Here is a Midlothian event worth getting out of the house for on July 4 and the coming days.
MEATBALL EATING CHAMPIONSHIP: Bartolini’s Restaurant, Catering & Banquets is accepting contestants for this eighth annual event.
Individuals seeking to qualify can make a $25 donation at the restaurant, 14420 S. Pulaski Road, Midlothian, and then attempt to eat 12 of the world-famous Bartolini meatballs.
The top 20 fastest individual qualifiers will earn a spot at the Bartolini Meatball Eating Championship, which will take place from 3 to 5 p.m. July 21 during St. Christopher Catholic Church’s 66th annual Fiesta.
The 2012 champion, Jamie “The Bear” McDonald, of Hartford, Conn., will return to defend his title of 45 2-ounce Bartolini meatballs in seven minutes.
Also, Palos Heights’ Patrick “Deep Dish” Bertoletti, the holder of 37 world records and 14 Guinness World Records, will challenge for the title.
The mission of this event is to raise awareness and funds for two local food pantries in Midlothian.
