What’s Going On (North) for Oct. 9, 2013

Here is a look at what’s going on in the SouthtownStar’s North region.

News includes Oak Lawn Community High School, the Oak Lawn Chamber of Commerce and Community High School District 218.

Crafts, business showcase and more

The Oak Lawn Community High School Parent Teacher Student Association will host its annual Holiday Craft Show, along with the Oak Lawn Chamber of Commerce’s Business Showcase, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 19 in the cafeteria of the school, 9400 Southwest Highway, Oak Lawn.

This year’s event will also include a community health fair.

Admission and parking are free. Handmade items from many area crafters will be on display.

Proceeds benefit the PTSA student scholarship fund.

Bulls youth camps

Community High School District 218 will host Bulls FUNdamentals basketball camps for boys and girls ages 5 to 14 at the Administrative Center, 10701 S. Kilpatrick Ave., Oak Lawn.

The camps have been separated into groups for ages 5 to 8 and 9 to 14. They will meet Oct. 26 and Nov. 2, 9 and 16.

The camp for ages 5 to 8 will meet from 9 to 10 a.m., and the camp for ages 9 to 14 from 10 to 11:30 a.m. The cost for the camp for younger children is $60, and it is $75 for the older group.

The camp, which is for boys and girls, will teach the latest techniques in ball-handling, shooting, passing, footwork and rebounding, as well as offensive and defensive team play.

Participants will receive instruction from professional Bulls/Sox Academy instructors, a camp T-shirt and a replica autograph photo of Bulls star Derrick Rose, according to a press release from District 218.
