WORK DAY: The trustees host their annual all-church work day at 9 a.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church of Homewood, 17929 Gottschalk Ave. Attendees should come dressed for cleaning or gardening. A light lunch will be provided. Information: (708) 798-0490.

HOLIDAY CRAFT & VENDORS FAIR: Salem United Church of Christ, 9717 S. Kostner Ave., Oak Lawn, hosts this free event from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. There will be a variety of crafters, vendors, raffles, bakery items, a nearly-new room, books and food. Information: (708) 424-7109.

CRAFTERS AND VENDORS SHOW: Sacred Heart Council of Catholic Women hosts this event from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday at its ministry center, 8245 W. 111th St., Palos Hills. Refreshments will be available for purchase. Tickets are available for a huge raffle. Information: (708) 974-3969.

RUMMAGE SALE: Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, 8607 S. Narragansett Ave., Burbank, hosts its annual rummage sale from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. Information: (708) 599-4780.

FALL FESTIVAL AND TRUNK OR TREAT: Food, fellowship and fun are set for 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Palos Lutheran Church, 12424 S. 71st Court, Palos Heights. This is a safe Christian family alternative to door-to-door trick-or-treating. Events will include congregation members hosting trunk-or-treating in the church parking lot and a costume parade with prizes and games for the children. PEOPLE OF THE WORD NEW STUDY: Living Word Lutheran Church, 16301 S. Wolf Road, Orland Park, conducts a six-part DVD study entitled “The Christmas Experience,” which is billed as an imaginative Bible-based study that examines the important truths discovered when people experience their first Christmas. PUMPKIN PATCH: Continuing to Thursday, First United Methodist Church, 10000 Central Ave., Oak Lawn, hosts its annual pumpkin patch from noon to dusk Sundays and 10 a.m. to dusk Mondays to Saturdays. Included will be a huge selection of pumpkins, a variety of gourds, Indian corn and strawberry corn, tractor rides for the children, and a craft and gift tent. Information: (708) 423-1170.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: The Retired Senior Volunteer Program of Catholic Charities seeks volunteers age 55 and older to provide assistance for local activities. Volunteers can deliver meals to a homebound senior, mentor a child, visit lonely seniors in nursing homes or help coordinate craft projects at a senior center. Catholic Charities will match a volunteer’s interests with available opportunities. Catholic Charities will provide supplementary insurance, mileage and meal reimbursement during volunteer service. TURKEY DINNER: St. John’s United Church of Christ, 11100 Second St., Mokena, hosts its annual turkey dinner from 4 to 7 p.m. Nov. 2 at the Christian Community Center. CHILDREN’S CHOIR 2013-14 SEASON: Living Word Lutheran Church, 16301 S. Wolf Road, Orland Park, starts this third season. Practices will be from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesdays starting Nov. 5. SIGHT IMPAIRED SUPPORT: Orland Area Sight Impaired Support for the Visually Impaired meets at 12:30 p.m. the first and third Thursday of each month at Orland Park Church, 7500 W. Sycamore Drive.
