Betty Mohr, a Chicago-based theater and opera critic, has been working with the SouthtownStar since 1994 when she began doing theater reviews for what was then known as the Daily Southtown.

Her work also has appeared in SouthtownStar sister newspapers the Chicago Sun-Times, The Herald-News and the Post Tribune.

In addition, Mohr has been published in the Chicago Tribune, The Australian, The Dramatist and The Globe and Mail in Toronto.

She has given lectures on American musical theater at Harper College in Palatine, Governors State University in University Park, the Council for Jewish Elderly, Friedman Place for blind and visually impaired adults, and other organizations.

Mohr is a frequent guest on WGN-AM (720)’s “Dean Richards’ Sunday Morning” show, which covers Chicago’s entertainment and lifestyle scene including movies, theater, food, and dining.

Her first novel, “First Stone on the Right,” a murder mystery, had a May 2011 e-release at BarnesandNoble.com and Amazon.com. A print edition of the book is planned for a November 2011 release.

Besides a love for what she critiques, Mohr is fascinated by economics and history.
