Foundation golf outing
The 20th annual golf outing of the Prairie State College Foundation will take place Monday at Idlewild Country Club, 19201 Dixie Highway, Flossmoor. All proceeds support student scholarships.
The day begins at 11 a.m. with lunch and driving range warmups, followed by an 18-hole scramble with a 12:30 p.m. shotgun start.
The event concludes with an awards reception, live auction and cocktails at 5:30 p.m. followed by a buffet dinner at 6 p.m.

Sertoma shopping event
The Housewares Super Sale will take place Saturday and Sunday at Sertoma Centre’s Matteson facility on Lincoln Highway/U.S. 30 between Cicero Avenue and Pulaski Road.
Attendees can save 50 percent or more on new items from the 2013 International Home + Housewares Show.

Community resources fair
The Midlothian Community Service Committee will sponsor a community resources fair from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at Bremen High School, 15203 Pulaski Road, Midlothian.
Participating service organizations, which will provide resources for those experiencing personal or financial hardship, include the Illinois Department of Veterans’ Affairs, Midlothian Police Department (Yellow Dot program), Christian Community Health Center, Kids In Danger and South Suburban Public Action to Deliver Shelter.
Thorn Creek farm walk
Registration is due Friday for the annual historic farm walk from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday.
Built in the early part of the 20th century, the farm is nestled deep within Thorn Creek Nature Preserve.
Attendees can learn about the Hornicek family and the buildings they built, help collect eggs from the hens and wander among the organic gardens, and find out how to grow garlic.
The free program is for all ages. Participants will meet at Thorn Creek Nature Center, 247 Monee Road, Park Forest, and caravan to the farm.

Cleaning and recycling
The village of Richton Park along with several partners are gearing up for a community-wide Saturday event encouraging residents and neighboring citizens to recycle waste and clean up Richton Park.
First is the annual Richton Park Community Clean Up Day, which starts at 8:45 a.m. at Pierce Park.
All residents can bring their household hazardous wastes and unwanted electronics to Rich South High School, 500 Sauk Trail, between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. when items will be collected by the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency and Acme Electronics Recycling. This collection was made possible with the assistance of co-sponsors including the South Suburban Mayors and Managers Association and Rich Township High School District 227.
Residents and neighboring citizens can bring empty fire extinguishers and empty propane tanks to Reliable Fire Equipment Co.’s Alsip location, 12848 S. Cicero Ave.
The Richton Park Community Development Department’s Building Safety Day will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the community center, 4445 Sauk Trail.
Eiche Turners potluck
Reservations are due Monday for the Eiche Turners Women’s Auxiliary of Tinley Park’s family potluck and tenpenny social beginning at 6:30 p.m. June 7.
Guests will partake in a variety of homemade entrees, side dishes and desserts provided by the Women’s Auxiliary.
The cost is $8 for adults, $4 for ages 5 to 12 and free for ages younger than 4.
Attendees can purchase numbered tickets and place them in the bag that corresponds with the prize one wants to win. The more tickets one drops in the bag, the better his or her chances of being a winner. There also will be a large raffle table for chances to win more prizes.
