The program will feature Jon Austin, historian, museum and cemetery director and History Channel guest expert on Civil War funeral practices.

Austin portrays Dr. Ben Lyford, a Civil War medical officer, and explains how advances in mortuary science made it more possible for the fallen Civil War troops to receive more respectful treatment. He also will discuss the more common mourning rituals of the era and the Abraham Lincoln funeral.

Tickets are required and free at the library’s main desk, 2433 York St., Blue Island.
