PALOS HEIGHTS

School band fundraiser

The Palos Heights School District 128 band car wash will be 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Independence Junior High School, 6610 W. Highland Drive.

Proceeds will be used to purchase and repair of instruments, sheet music and other educational activities.

TINLEY PARK

Book signing, art show

The Vogt Visual Arts Center’s fifth annual art show and sale will be Saturday at 17420 S. 67th Court, Tinley Park.

Author Lisa A. Tortorello, of Chicago, will be available to sign copies of her book “My Hero, My Ding: A Memoir of a Girl and Her Grandfather” (Tate Publishing) from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

At the art show and sale, patrons can find pieces that are authentic and locally created. The June gallery exhibit, “For The Birds,” also will be on display.

PARK FOREST

‘Visions and Voices’

South suburban artist Marikay Peter Witlock will exhibit her environmentally inspired artwork at the Thorn Creek Nature Center, 247 Monee Road, Park Forest, on Sunday during a wine-and-cheese reception.

More than 30 of Witlock’s graphite and pastel works will be on display from 1 to 4 p.m.

At the heart of the exhibition is Witlock’s 1988 graphite rendering entitled “Prairie Chapel.” Signed and numbered prints of “Prairie Chapel” will be for sale.

Admission to the event is $5, which also benefits the nature center.

Throughout the reception, Jerry Santoni will perform dulcimer music. At 2:30 p.m., Patricia Caldwell will sing.

CHICAGO HEIGHTS

Corned beef dinner

The Illiana Jewish Genealogical Society will conduct its annual corned beef dinner from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Sunday at Bergstein’s NY Delicatessen, 200 Dixie Highway, Chicago Heights.

Family memberships in the Illiana Jewish Genealogical Society are $20 per year.
