The nonprofit Stray Dog Theatre Group will close its year of theater with the tragicomedy “Waiting for Godot” by Samuel Beckett.
Deemed by many as Beckett’s greatest work of drama, the story was first presented in France in 1953 and was translated to English by Beckett.
Though the battle still rages around “Waiting for Godot,” it is recognized as a seminal work of modern fiction and a part of theater history.
The story follows two wayfarers, Vladimir, played by John Madison from Tinley Park, and Estragon, played by Tony Carsella from Blue Island.
They hold vigil for the mysterious Godot, who can change their monotonous lives around, they think. The two, who rely on each other like children, encounter Godot’s messenger, a Girl, played by Anna Knicker from Blue Island, who acts as their only contact with Godot.
Other visitors include Pozzo, played by Mark Eaton from Chicago’s Beverly community, a wealthy land baron, and his menial Lucky, played by Chas Seaton from Burbank. Will any of these characters lead them to Godot?
The show is directed by Pamela Morgan from Country Club Hills, who is assisted by Lil O’Donnell from Chicago’s Clearing community and artistic consultant Mark Dillion from Oak Lawn.
The technical staff includes Karl Kazawitch from Oak Forest on lighting and sound, Joanne Musial from Riverdale on props and box office, Tony Carsella from Blue Island on set construction, and Margaret Pesquera as the stage manager.
This is not a student production.
