Pioneers Cross Country
The Prairie State College seventh annual Pioneers Cross Country 5K Run/3K Walk will take place Saturday at the Pioneer Recreation and Sports Park, 100 197th Place, Chicago Heights.
Advance registration fees are $20 for 5K runners and $12 for the 3K walk. Advance registration is open until Friday. Race day registration on event day will cost more.

The Flossmoor Area Chapter of the Lyric Opera of Chicago will present Three Tenors on Saturday in Olympia Fields Country Club’s Candlelight Room, 2800 Country Club Drive, Olympia Fields.

Comedy Improv, Open Mic
The Tinley Park Park District’s Comedy Improv and Open Mic Night will begin at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Tinley Park Performing Arts Center, 16801 S. 80th Ave.

Fine Art Fair
The Orland Park Area Chamber of Commerce will host its outdoor Fine Art Fair from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday at the Orland Park Crossing, 143rd Street and LaGrange Road.

Valley Learning Center
Moraine Valley Community College is taking registration for the third session of the Valley Learning Center summer program for kids.

The three-day Summer Safari: Adventures in Thorn Creek! for ages 5 to 7 will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. July 25 to 27 at Thorn Creek Nature Center, 247 Monee Road, Park Forest.

Honoring Korean War vets
Smith Village and Smith Crossing residents along with Korean War veterans will join dignitaries to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the close of the Korean War.
The ceremony will take place at 10:30 a.m. July 26 at the Korean War memorial in the northeast corner of Kennedy Park, 11320 S. Western Ave., in Chicago’s Beverly community.
