Poetry, footwork and urban culture will come together during a performance of “Braid Tales” at 8 p.m. Jan. 26 in the Center for Performing Arts at Governors State University, 1 University Parkway, University Park.

School officials said the performance brings the language and stories of the streets to life through hip-hop theater, spoken word and intricate graffiti art.

“Braid Tales” weaves real-life stories through the lens of the Kuumba Lynx Peace Poets and Chicago’s nationally renowned FootworKINGz. The South Shore Drill Team also will be featured in the show.

“This electrifying double bill features a diverse explosion of genres and styles influenced by classical music, hip-hop, jazz and modern dance,” officials said in a news release.

“Braid Tales” is the second production in the “One More Night” series, which officials said brings the best in Chicago theatre, music and dance to Southland audiences. The series is funded by a grant from the Chicago Community Trust.

Tickets are $30 for general admission, $10 for college students and $5 for high school students.
