Annual Giant Garage Sale
The Tinley Park Park District’s annual Giant Garage Sale will take place 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Tony Bettenhausen Recreation Center parking lot, 8125 W. 171st St., Tinley Park.
Admission is free, and more than 50 exhibitors have registered to sell their spring cleaning fallout.

Civil War embalming
“Battle Field Embalming During the Civil War” will be the focus of a program at 7 p.m. June 25 at the Blue Island Public Library.
Hosted by Kreuger Funeral Home, 13050 Greenwood Ave., the event will be the latest installment in the library’s Civil War series.
The program will feature Jon Austin, historian, museum and cemetery director and History Channel guest expert on Civil War funeral practices.
Austin portrays Dr. Ben Lyford, a Civil War medical officer, and explains how advances in mortuary science made it more possible for the fallen Civil War troops to receive more respectful treatment. He also will discuss the more common mourning rituals of the era and the Abraham Lincoln funeral.
Tickets are required and free at the library’s main desk, 2433 York St., Blue Island.

A Drive 4 UR Community event will take place 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Lincoln-Way East High School, 201 Colorado Ave., Frankfort.
Currie Motors will provide the cars to be test driven, and Ford Motor Co. will donate $20 for each test drive to the L-W High School District 210 Foundation.
Foundation board president Bob Kennedy said, “The maximum donation from Ford is $6,000 so we are looking for 300 people to come to Lincoln-Way East for a test drive.”

Knights of Harmony
The Will-Cook Chapter of the Barber Shop Harmony Society meets for an evening of singing and fellowship on alternate Thursdays in Tinley Park and Lockport.
Men who like to sing are welcome as guests.
