Memorial Opera House has announced auditions on Aug. 12-13 for its upcoming production of Thornton Wilder’s classic play “Our Town.”
Directed by Justin Treasure, this play is an American classic about the universal human experiences of life, love and death.
Wilder’s play about the people of Grover’s Corners is a perfect return to small-town values.
Change comes slowly to a small New Hampshire town in the early 20th century.
People grow up, get married, live and die. Milk and the newspaper get delivered every morning and nobody locks their front doors.
“Our Town” is a perfect reminder of a simpler time.
The show will be staged from Oct. 4 -13.
Auditions will take place at the Memorial Opera House, 104 Indiana Ave., Valparaiso.
Audition information: Scot PJ MacDonald at email@example.com or (219) 548-9137, Ext. 53932.
Auditions at Towle
The Towle Youth Theater Ensemble will conduct auditions for “Clue, The Musical at 7 p.m. Aug. 26 at the Towle Theater, 5205 Hohman Ave., Hammond.
Directed by Jeff Casey with musical direction by Elizabeth Tuazon, “Clue” will run Oct. 19-27.
The directors are seeking five young men and three young women (sixth- to 12th-graders) who are all strong singers and actors for this fun and campy musical inspired by the famous board game.
Those auditioning should prepare 32 bars of an up-tempo Broadway-style song and provide sheet music in the proper key, and they may be asked to sing and read from the show.
Offstage or backstage show involvement includes small committees such as box office, technical and public relations or marketing.
The Towle Theater also will host auditions for two non-Equity productions: the original annual production of “A Fabulous 50’s Christmas” and the musical “Adrift in Macao” with book and lyrics by Christopher Durang with music by Peter Melnick.
There will be three rounds of auditions from 1-5 p.m. Sept. 7 at Theater Wit, 1229 Belmont Ave., Chicago, and two nights of local auditions at the Towle Theater on Sept. 8-9 at 7 p.m.
All roles in the shows will be paid.
“A Fabulous 50’s Christmas” pays homage to the Perry Como and Andy Williams’ Christmas specials of the 1950s and ’60s with original vocal arrangements and commercials from the era.
“Adrift in Macao” is a loving parody of film noir movies.
Those auditioning for “A Fabulous 50’s Christmas” are asked to prepare 32 bars of a standard Christmas song and provide sheet music in the correct key (a capella or taped accompaniment will not be allowed), and they may be asked to read a commercial script.
For the “Adrift in Macao” auditions, one should prepare 32 bars of a Broadway song not from the show and provide sheet music in the correct key (a capella or taped accompaniment will not be allowed), and they may be asked to sing from the score or read from the script.
To schedule an audition for Sept. 7 at Theater Wit email a headshot and resume to firstname.lastname@example.org and specify the show.
No appointments are necessary for the auditions at the Towle Theater.
