Here is a look at music events in the Southland and beyond.
Gigs include popular Southland draw the Chicago Kingsnakes opening the Chicago Blues Festival, the 2012 Main Street Nights series kickoff with Dave Rudolf, and the Midwest Motet Society spring concert, From Venice to Vienna: Music from the Salon.
The Chicago Kingsnakes, a popular draw in the Southland, have been selected by the Windy City Blues Society to kick off the 2012 Chicago Blues Festival at 11 a.m. June 8 on the Windy City Blues Society Stage on Columbus Drive between Monroe Street and Jackson Boulevard in Chicago.
Celebrating their 29th year, the Chicago Kingsnakes are promoting their 10th release, “Blue Mosaic,” which features 12 original Chicago blues tunes from the quartet.
“It’s always special to perform at the Chicago Blues Festival,” Chicago Kingsnakes leader Jim “Ang” Anderson said. “We have played all over the world, but this is our back yard.”
The Windy City Blues Society is an all volunteer organization and a nonprofit 501(c)(3) based in Chicago.
The society, which is an affiliate member of the Blues Foundation, has a mission is to preserve, promote and enhance blues music and the blues community, support blues education, and promote the Chicago-area blues scene including its blues musicians.
