Giovanni to host lecture at GSU

Poet and activist Nikki Giovanni will give a lecture titled “The Courage of Equality: Love, Work, Society” at 6 p.m. Nov. 7 in the Center for Performing Arts at Governors State University, 1 University Parkway, University Park. Giovanni will take questions from the audience and sign books after the presentation.
Giovanni’s work has been influenced by issues related to social justice and civil rights.
Her first book of poetry, “Black Feeling, Black Talk,” was published in 1967. Giovanni is an English professor at Virginia Tech.
The university also will host a book discussion of Giovanni’s “Quilting the Black–Eyed Pea” at 3:30 p.m. Nov. 7 in Engbretson Hall.
