Here is a look at some crowd pleasers.
Events include Apostle Christian Theatre’s “Don’t Kick the Turkeys” from Nov. 2-17 in Chicago Heights, Polish Film Festival in America screenings at the Beverly Arts Center in Chicago and Southland Area Theatre Ensemble’s “[title of show]” on Nov. 3-4 in University Park.
‘Don’t Kick the Turkeys’
The Apostle Christian Theatre’s production of “Don’t Kick the Turkeys” will be presented throughout November.
“This family comedy has a little something for everyone,” officials said.
It is only the Rev. Thompson’s third day as pastor of New Hope Church. His secretary lays down the laws of the office, the janitor is “fixing” everything in sight, the most prestigious member of the congregation is on the warpath, and an eccentric layperson presents some far-out ideas for Sunday morning’s special.
The calamity and humor only escalate when a day care moves into the church building after the pipes in their own building burst. Can God work in such a situation?
Featured in the cast are Andrea Fleming, of Steger; Bryce Gardner, of Park Forest; Katie Hale, of Chicago Heights; Patrick McCulley, of Monee; Kristy McCulley-Schnepf and Tommy McCulley Schnepf, of South Chicago Heights; Beverly Petschauer, of Park Forest; Teresa Rogerson, of Richton Park; and Melissa Russo, of Monee.
Performances will take place at the Olympia Gardens firehouse, 2250 205th St., Chicago Heights.
There are two options for the performances of this show.
Friday night shows for $15 per adult and $10 per child for ages 12 and younger do not include a dinner and will be performed at 7 p.m. Nov. 2, 9 and 16.
Saturday shows do include a dinner for $20 per adult and $15 per child ages 12 and younger and will be performed at 7 p.m. Nov. 3, 10 and 17.
There is a discount of 10 percent for groups of 10 or more for any show, or one may print out a coupon via the troupe’s website.
Reservations for the dinner shows are recommended due to catering needs.

Polish Film Festival
Polish Film Festival in America screenings will take place at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 7 and 14 at the Beverly Arts Center, 2407 W. 111th St., Chicago.
Established in 1989, the Polish Film Festival in America is billed as the world’s most extensive annual programming that promotes Polish cinema, screening more than 70 features, documentaries and shorts at selected theater locations.
“Women’s Day” (“Dzien Kobiet”) (2012) will be screened on Nov. 7.
Halina is excited about her promotion at work until the employees who were once her friends turn their back on her when she becomes management, setting a rebellion in motion.
“Father, Son and The Holy Cow” (“Swieta Krowa”) (2011) will be screened on Nov. 14,.
Tickets for each screening are $14, or $12 for seniors and students.

‘[title of show]’
The Center for Performing Arts at Governors State University, off University Parkway east of Governors Highway, University Park, will present the acclaimed musical comedy “[title of show]” at 8 p.m. Nov. 3 and 4 p.m. Nov. 4.
The show is a production of the Southland Area Theatre Ensemble. Audience members will be seated on stage for this cabaret-style production.
The play is a postmodern homage to backstage musicals like “A Chorus Line” and “Kiss Me Kate.” Two struggling writers, Hunter and Jeff, decide to create a completely original musical starring themselves and their talented lady friends, Susan and Heidi.
Their musical, also called “[title of show],” gets into the New York Musical Theatre Festival, and becomes a hit. By play’s end, it’s headed for Broadway.
The production received a Tony Award nomination for best book of a musical in 2009.
Cast members include Steve McQuown as Hunter, Nate Krug as Jeff, Stacy Knefelkamp as Heidi and Anne Lydia Litchfield as Susan. The show is directed by J.R. Rose.
Rose said, “ ‘[title of show]’ is fresh, funny, simple, and at times poignant,. It’s a musical about the business, and the underdog, our hopes, our friends,and following your dreams.”

SLATE was established in 2009 as an artistic collaboration between the Center for Performing Arts, local theater educators and veterans of area community theater companies.
The troupe has produced four critically acclaimed summer productions directed by J.R. Rose: “Into the Woods” in 2009, “The Wedding Singer” in 2010, “Ragtime” in 2011 and “Legally Blonde: The Musical” in 2012.

PRAIRIE STATE COLLEGE’S CHRISTOPHER ART GALLERY: 202 S. Halsted St., Chicago Heights, (708) 709-3636 (PSC Foundation ): To celebrate Chicago Artists Month, which honors the city’s art and artists, the gallery feature the works of three prominent Chicago artists whose works have been shown and are owned by the Art Institute of Chicago, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago, the Whitney Museum of American Art and Museum of Modern Art in New York City, as well as other prominent museums and galleries.
The show “Narrative!” will run to Nov. 1 and features artists Gladys Nilsson, Eleanor Spiess-Ferris and John Pitman Weber.
Gallery director Beth Shadur said the artists “tell oblique narratives through their combination of images, both imaginary and observed. These painters use vivid color, intensely personal imagery and a combination of tender and challenging reflections on the human experience.”

Cayucos joined five adult otters that are native to Alaskan waters. *** Exhibits include “Jellies,” which has been extended through 2013, “Waters of the World,” “Caribbean Reef,”“Amazon Rising,”“Wild Reef” and the Polar Play Zone. Attractions include the Shedd’s aquatic show.
