Here is a look at some upcoming concerts.

Gigs include Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestras’ concert, featuring several Southlanders, at Symphony Center in Chicago.

Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestras will opens its 2012-13 season with a concert by the organization’s 123-member Symphony Orchestra at Chicago’s Orchestra Hall at Symphony Center, 220 S. Michigan Ave., at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 11.

Under the baton of music director Allen Tinkham, the orchestra will perform works by renowned French composers Charles-Camille Saint-Saens, Gabriel Faure, Francis Jean Marcel Poulenc, Olivier Messiaen and Claude Debussy.

The concert will feature the voices of Roosevelt University’s Chicago College of Performing Arts Conservatory Chorus & Chorale for three movements from Paul Hindemith’s “Six Chansons,” Faure’s “Les Djinns” and Poulenc’s “Gloria.” “Gloria” also will feature coloratura soprano Elizabeth P. Norman.

The program is a collection of works performed out of chronological order, capturing the moments in music history when music increasingly loosened itself from certain parameters: classical Western tonality, formal structure, public opinion and even time

“We are thrilled to have the CCPA and conductor Cheryl Frazes Hill join us for what promises to be an unforgettable evening of music,” Tinkham said.

The musicians of CYSO Symphony Orchestra include students from Chicago and more than 45 Chicago suburbs including Frankfort, Lockport, Olympia Fields, Orland Hills, Orland Park, Park Forest and Tinley Park.

CYSO’s Symphony Orchestra has earned an international reputation as a premier orchestral ensemble featuring extraordinary young musicians from the Chicago area.

Tinkham was appointed music director of CYSO in 2001. Under his direction, CYSO has performed at Orchestra Hall, Millennium Park, Ravinia, Carnegie Hall and several international locales.

In September, CYSO musicians accompanied Justin Timberlake during his welcome as a Team USA ambassador of the Ryder Cup and also performed the music for the famous Ryder Cup procession of the American and European teams and dignitaries.

This concert is supported by the Alvin & Louise Myerberg Family Foundation Inc.

Tickets are $20-$40 for adults and free for ages 7 and younger. Boxes are also available.
